Wonderful conference...watch the slideshow...

What an incredible conference...thank you everyone!  President and Sister Lew gave terrific testimonies at our concluding fireside on Sunday.

We put together a slideshow from the many awesome photos taken by leaders during the conference.  Follow this link to watch...feel free to share with others.

Note for ward youth leaders: we will need about 4 leaders per ward to help with the hike in the morning. Those leaders should meet with Toran MacArthur at 8 am in the Relief Society room at the stake center for brief instruction before driving to our hike locations to set up. Thank you!
So far...lots of fun...sling shotting Peeps...toys for kids...strong allergies at Highland Glen...a little fender bender...and perfect weather...

Sunscreen!

Just heard on KSL today that we are close enough to the summer solstice that you can get a sunburn in 15 minutes during peak sunlight right now.  Everyone remember to apply sunscreen both Friday and Saturday...

Link to Adult Leader Packet for Conference

We will have printed copies Friday morning for all adult leaders, but you can view it as needed now at this link: http://public.iwork.com/document/?a=p219909447&d=YC_Packet_2011.pages

Information for Hike Helpers

We will need approximately 30 adult leaders to help run our Saturday morning hike.  We will work with ward YM/YW leaders to identify those leaders from each ward who can help.

Those leaders will receive information by e-mail by Friday evening with basic information.

Saturday morning, we ask that these Hike Helpers meet at the Stake Center (we will use the RS room if available) at 8:00 am for a brief session to familiarize all with plans for the hike and make assignments for the hike, then by about 8:15 we will have the leaders covering the early portions of the hike on their way down to start setting up; the rest of the leaders will follow as organized.

There are several key items we would like our Hike Helpers to bring:
- A lawn chair you can carry with you to your location may be worthwhile at most of the hike stations.
- A water bottle or "camel bag" of some kind is recommended for your own hydration.
- Sunscreen for yourself, and perhaps for some youth who need some and have forgotten to apply!
- A digital camera if you have one to help us get some great photos of the youth on the hike.  After the hike (about 10-11 am) we will have one or more computers set up at the Amphitheater to download these photos from your camera as a record of the activity and for use in a slideshow to be compiled of Youth Conference.

In addition to keeping things safe along the hike, the plan is for there to be stations along the hike where the youth recite each Article of Faith in groups.  We will go over how to do this at our brief meeting Saturday morning at the Stake Center.

Thank you so much for your help!

Reminder to Bring Cameras

We should have our packet for adult leaders at Youth Conference ready later tonight and will post a link to be able to download the PDF file of this.  Please note that this packet is for the adult leaders, not for the youth...we want there to be some fun and surprises so we don't want them to see the maps and other information in the packet prior to the conference!

Because our activities at this conference will be scattered over many locations, we are asking that all drivers, challenge leaders - all adult leaders really - to bring their own digital cameras and take some good photos of the youth in their various conference activities.

We will have one or more laptops set up with typical connectors for digital cameras to download so we can compile and use these both as a record of the event and for a slideshow to be enjoyed at the dance Saturday night.

As of now, the plans are to be able to download your digital photos at the following times and locations:

- Friday at the Stake Center immediately after the Amazing Race at 6-7 pm.
- Saturday morning at the Amphitheater after the hike at 10-11 am.
- Saturday afternoon at the Amphitheater after the morningside, lunch, group games, and afternoon fireside (between activities and also at 5-5:30 pm as we work to transport the youth back home to prepare for the dance.

That will give us an hour or two to prepare the slideshow for the dance!  Nothing like a little time pressure to focus the mind...at least we hope so!  ;-)

Information for Challenge Leaders

Challenge Leaders: You will be at one location for the duration of the race, from 11a – 6p on Friday. There will be approximately 70-80 four-person teams completing each challenge, so you will be busy and the time will pass quickly for sure. Each location will have 2 – 4 leaders, so feel free to sign up with someone you’d enjoy spending the afternoon with.

Suggested take along items: sack lunch, camp chair, umbrella, hat, sunscreen, book, scriptures, water or other drinks to keep hydrated, digital camera.

We are asking all adult leaders who can to bring their own digital camera to take photos at the locations they are supervising; we will have several points where we can download those photos to a laptop computer and will pick from them to create a slideshow to show during the dance on Saturday night.

Please be to the stake center no later than 10:00 AM to receive your packets and challenge materials (if needed).

Challenge Leaders must be 18 years old.

Thank you for your help!!!

Information for Ward Leaders

Youth Conference Information
Youth conference is almost here and we are all very excited to spend some time with you and the youth of your wards. However, in order to make this conference successful we will need the participation of as many adult leaders as possible. Following are the specific needs that we have and we ask that you do all that you can to help provide this support.

Driver / Team Leader – (Friday June 10th) This individual will travel the entire day with a team of up to 4 youths and participate with the youth as they perform challenges during the day. Thus, we will need one leader with a vehicle for every 4 youth who are attending the conference.
Challenge Leader – (Friday June 10th) This individual will run a specific challenge at a specific location and will oversee and interact with each group as they arrive and complete the challenge. They will need to stay at one location for the day and will have each team come to them during the day. We will need about 4 individuals or couples from each ward to help with this task.
Saturday Warrior – (Saturday June 11th) This individual will help us along the hike route and during the service project and games. We need their help providing supervision, ensuring safety, and helping with simple activities. We anticipate needing approximately one leader for every 10 youth for these activities on Saturday.
General Transportation – (Friday June 10th & Saturday June 11th) We will need assistance from leaders transporting youth between various activities. As you review the schedule please take note of the movement between venues and help us provide transportation between these events. We still need to have a list of those adults who will be participating as Drivers or Challenge Leaders for the Friday “Amazing Race." We will need to contact these leaders with specific instructions for their participation in the conference. Thus, please provide their contact information to one of the presidency as soon as possible.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: We are asking all adult leaders who can to bring their own digital camera to take photos at the locations they are supervising; we will have several points where we can download those photos to a laptop computer and will pick from them to create a slideshow to show during the dance on Saturday night.

Tips for Parents and Youth Attending the Conference

Would you like to get the most out of Youth Conference? As we've discussed the itinerary with youth and leaders, we've found there are some common questions. These topics should help you get the most out of the conference.

o Parents, please encourage your youth not to waste time on cell phones (calls or texting) during the conference.
o Encourage your youth to attend the entire conference, and help them get enough rest between days. If possible, we recommend the youth not stay out late or up late watching movies or other worldly things on Friday and Saturday night. They are going home to sleep, but they are still at Youth Conference.
o Parents plan to bring your youth to the Stake Center on Friday @ 9 am. Youth leaders will bring them back home on Friday and Saturday night. We ask that the youth attending the conference please not drive to the event.
o Youth, please wear appropriate clothing (For the Strength of Youth Standards apply). We recommend no open-toed shoes on Saturday in particular due to plans for hiking and service project.
o Dress appropriately for the weather and consider need for sunscreen, hats, jackets, etc. We will be outside both days!
o Youth are encouraged to bring notebooks and pen for speaker workshops.
